Winery Fun This Weekend
Looking for something to do this weekend? We love the Pinehurst and Southern Pines area but sometimes we do go looking for fun in other places.
Tomorrow Raffaldini Vineyards and Winery will be having their 9th Annual Festa Italiana. Admission is $15 and includes tasting of 3 wines, your souvenir glass and parking.
Weather is predicted to be sunny with a high of 79 degrees. Can you imagine a better day than enjoying lunch with a great glass of wine and taking in the mountain views while sitting in the middle of these gorgeous grape vines and listening to music? What a great way to wrap up the summer of 2014!
Be sure to look for Jay Raffaldini who is a joy and more than happy to explain his wines in great detail.
Raffaldini Vineyards is a short 2 1/2 hour drive from Southern Pines. You will find them at 450 Groce Rd in Ronda, North Carolina.

Pizza in Southern Pines, NC
When you are from New York, like Chicago, you can be pretty
particular about your pizza. Arrogant
some might say, and they would probably be correct. Here in Southern Pines we have two favorite
pizza spots! If you are looking for that
New York style pizza we recommend So Pies NY Pizzeria at 130 West New Hampshire
Ave. We always ask for the crust to be
extra crispy and they never disappoint! Great news - they now deliver!
If you would prefer a great specialty pizza with a great
glass of wine P.zza will never disappoint.
This artisan wood fired pizza is located at 127 West Pennsylvania
Ave. They also have great salads and small plates in case one of your dining friends just doesn't feel like pizza. The staff here is warm and
wonderful and the smell from the street just draws you in!

Vacation in North Carolina
Well, it is that time of year where our minds start thinking
about vacation. Or maybe it is a little
early. I do think that the 8 inches of
snow this week along with a little ice (which is unusual for our part of NC)
has sparked my spring and summer thoughts early.
I find my mind wandering to the garden and where our trips
might take us. We have so many favorite
spots. There is the beach, the mountains
and then of course the callings of family.
Every summer takes us to Holden Beach for just day trips. I’m not sure if it is the beach or the Shrimp
Burger at Provision Company that calls harder.
Either way it is a relaxing day with my toes in the sand or just
floating on the boogie board. As a girl
from NY I am still amazed at the 80 degree water here in the ocean. How can such a large body of water be so
warm?
We have also found a new favorite in the mountains. Did you know that Biltmore has a summer
concert series? We happened to find a
great Groupon to a hotel in Waynesville last summer and while looking for
things to do I discovered that on the weekend we planned to go the Four Tops
and the Temptations were playing at Biltmore.
I am still awestruck at being there, listening to some of my favorites
with God painting the most incredible sunset!
We are patiently waiting to see what is announced for the upcoming year
to make plans once again.
Last year also seemed to be the Year of the Grape. We found 3 great wineries in Asheville,
Yadkin Valley and Ronda, NC.
Living In the Pinehurst Southern Pines area you just don’t have to go far to enjoy yourself.
But we all need something new. What will it be? Stay tuned….

Snow in Southern Pines / Pinehurst, North Carolina
There is so much talk about the recent snow here in the Sandhills. Being a former northerner who would scoff at such troubles in minimal snow, I must say, southern weather has been an eye opener.
I would say we had a bit of ice with two inches of snow. Research on the internet states we have 5.2 inches per year on average. I can say that has not been the case in the last several years but you just never know when we might get a bit more to make up for the years with a bit less.
What makes us different here, and why people think we are crazy, is that we just don't have the equipment to handle the snow. The day before snow is predicted the roads are treated with a salt brine and after the snow the major thoroughfares are plowed. The rest of the roads are taken care of by mother nature in a day or so when temperatures creep back up.
With that said it snowed Tuesday evening and today, Friday, we are back in the 50's and the snow will be gone tomorrow. No shoveling, no back pain. Just a few quiet days to enjoy the scenery.
