North Carolina Peaches

Don’t you love that fresh picked peach that has juice just dripping to your elbow?!  Moore County grows some of the best peaches.  My favorite is Auman Orchards and you will find them just minutes from Pinehurst.

They are located at 3140 Highway 73 in West End.  Simply pull down their driveway right by the house and pull into the pole barn.  Family is there to wait on you, explain the different peaches and make sure you get the best!  They even stack the bags with ripest at the top to ones that might wait a day or two below.

I don’t think there is anything better than the perfect peach on a beautiful summer day.  It seems my best peach is always the first out of the bag and I eat it the minute I’m in the car at Auman Orchards.  If you are lucky enough to get them all home they also make great jam!

Give them a try and be sure to bring some napkins!

Pinecrest High School - Best in Moore County!

Schools are always important when purchasing a home.  Even for the buyer who does not have children.  Parents with children will pay attention to school ratings and often design their home search to focus on certain schools.  To be sure their children receive a strong education, studies show buyers will pay more for a home to be in the right district.

The National Association of Realtors recently shared a recent Redfin study using MLS databases and have discovered that buyers paid, on average, an additional $50 per square foot for homes within certain school districts during the period of May 1 to July 31, 2013.

If you are wondering where the best high school is here in Moore County we are proud to share the most recent U.S. News and World Report!  U.S. News and World Report recently named their top high schools in North Carolina.  They reviewed 31,242 U.S. public high schools and 97 North Carolina schools made the ranking.  We are very proud of Pinecrest High School and the faculty right here in Southern Pines!  They have been ranked #15 in North Carolina and #1383 nationally. Congratulations to our teachers and our students for all of their hard work!

Vacation in North Carolina

Well, it is that time of year where our minds start thinking about vacation.  Or maybe it is a little early.  I do think that the 8 inches of snow this week along with a little ice (which is unusual for our part of NC) has sparked my spring and summer thoughts early.

I find my mind wandering to the garden and where our trips might take us.  We have so many favorite spots.  There is the beach, the mountains and then of course the callings of family.

Every summer takes us to Holden Beach for just day trips.  I’m not sure if it is the beach or the Shrimp Burger at Provision Company that calls harder.  Either way it is a relaxing day with my toes in the sand or just floating on the boogie board.  As a girl from NY I am still amazed at the 80 degree water here in the ocean.  How can such a large body of water be so warm?

North Carolina Beaches

We have also found a new favorite in the mountains.  Did you know that Biltmore has a summer concert series?  We happened to find a great Groupon to a hotel in Waynesville last summer and while looking for things to do I discovered that on the weekend we planned to go the Four Tops and the Temptations were playing at Biltmore.  I am still awestruck at being there, listening to some of my favorites with God painting the most incredible sunset!  We are patiently waiting to see what is announced for the upcoming year to make plans once again.

Biltmore

Last year also seemed to be the Year of the Grape.  We found 3 great wineries in Asheville, Yadkin Valley and Ronda, NC.

Living In the Pinehurst Southern Pines area you just don’t have to go far to enjoy yourself.

But we all need something new.  What will it be?  Stay tuned….

People Are Moving to North Carolina!

It's obviously not just me that thinks North Carolina is a great place to live.  United Van Lines Annual Migration Study lists North Carolina as #3 for most inbound moves.

Life in North Carolina gives you incredible coastline on the east and the Great Smokey Mountains in the West.  Taking you from sea level to an elevation high of 6684 ft on the top of Mount Mitchell.

We are the home of Nascar, NFL's Carolina Panthers, NHL's Carolina Hurricanes, NBA's Charlotte Bobcats and Golf with 40 courses right here in our backyard.  We are also home to many college teams that have an avid following of fans.  We are true "Carolina Blue" Tar Heel fans but do have a Duke fan or two here in our company!

Our climate here in the Piedmont area tends to have average temperatures in the 90's in summer and 40's in winter.  But if you need snow you can head to the mountains and in 4 hours to enjoy or craving the perfect shrimp burger you can be there by lunch if you leave at 10 a.m.

Whether you like top chefs such as Emeril, great wine or country barbeque you will find it here in North Carolina.

People come here for a visit and never go home!  Ready to find your new home in North Carolina check it out right here!

Thank you United Van Lines for sharing this great information.

Living in the Southern Pines and Pinehurst Area

North Carolina is a wonderful place to live.  Offering ocean beaches in the east, the Great Smoky Mountains in the west and a plethora of living choices in between.

Pinehurst / Southern Pines is located just a bit more than 2 1/2 hours from the ocean in Wilmington and just 4 1/2 hours to the mountains in Asheville.  Just south of our State Capital in Raleigh by 1 1/2 hours and east of the banking capital of Charlotte by 2 hours, our location is convenient to most happenings in North Carolina.

We are located in Moore County and according to the 2012 US census our county population is 90,302. 12,736 call Southern Pines Home, 15,008 in the Village of Pinehurst and 6,672 in Aberdeen to round out our immediate area.

This blog will talk about near and far.  Places to go, things to do, dining, and fun whether it is for one or many.  Should you decide this is the place you would like to live we will also add a little real estate information!

I look forward to sharing why I love living here!
